A circular published by Iranian media outlets linked to the country’s security apparatus instructed UAE residents to evacuate areas surrounding key maritime hubs including Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, and Mina Al-Fujairah. These ports are among the most strategically important logistics and energy gateways in the Gulf region.
The warning comes amid escalating tensions following U.S. strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, a critical oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf. Tehran had previously vowed retaliation after the attack on the facility, which plays a central role in Iran’s petroleum exports.
Iranian missile and drone strikes over the past two weeks have reportedly killed six people and injured at least 141 others in the UAE, the majority of them civilians.
Beyond port infrastructure, several other types of targets have been struck during the attacks, including airports, hotels, high-rise towers, financial centers, and oil installations. The breadth of the targets has heightened concerns among regional security analysts about the potential economic implications for Gulf trade and energy flows.
However, some analysts suggest the warning issued by Iranian media could also be part of a psychological strategy aimed at generating fear and uncertainty among residents and international investors in the region.
